Home sweet home
Rest in peace, fish! |
After being away for a few days in the warmth and humidity of Florida, I returned home to face a dreadful fact. My house was freezing. It was bone-chilling cold. My miser ways blocked me from leaving the heat on at any temperature while away and now I was playing the price. The thermostat in the living room read 40 degrees. My poor angel fish did not survive. Even the shower curtain liner in my bathroom seemed to have gotten frigid in the cold.
I turned the heat on downstairs and the fire is going in the living room's fire place but temperature is sluggish. Last I saw it had merely crept to 50 degrees.
I dumped out a backpack full of dirty laundry- the bathing suit was still damp from swimming in the ocean and various pools. Seems unbelievable that I was able to do that just yesterday when this evening I have made a fleece bathrobe part of my ensemble.
I recall what I said to my nephew earlier today- that the great thing about traveling is that you are able to leave home and when you return, you realize how much you appreciate it. I wonder if I should be eating my words. Yet, despite the fact my house killed my fish and its floors froze my feet I am gald to be reunited with home. It is not always pretty or pleasant but it is home and it is good to be back.
