Dinner With The Family

Having company over is a unique occurrence for me. It doesn't happen too often. I am not a huge fan of hosting but over the course of this quarantine and pandemic I have come to realize that maybe I need to be around more people. The other day I was running an errand and I took my dog along for the ride. Before going into the grocery store I turned around and told Milo that I wouldn't be gone long, not to worry and that I loved him so, so much. It was only after this long winded speech to a dachshund that I realized I was  loudly talking to my pet in a parking lot, with the car door open for everyone to hear.

Yes; I would say it is time to socialize more. So it was lucky for me that my folks came over for dinner that night. I made meatballs with feta and olives and my mom graciously made her fabulous flourless chocolate cake with whipped cream topping. Even more gracious, she left me the leftovers. Sitting at the table,  it felt so good to see other faces and to laugh and talk with people.

When my parent left and I saw the dirty pans and dishes, it didn't dismay me. I happily scrubbed away at pots and fitted bowls and plates in the dishwasher like some kind of free-form puzzle.  There was a lot to be happy about: I had dinner with my family, winter is on its way out, spring is just around the corner and all the strict quarantine rules are loosening up. It would seem, as the legendary Barbra Streisand sings, "happy days are here again."
