A New Family Member Is Coming

Meet Oli M. Right now his name is Michael but it will soon be changed. I haven’t meet him yet but I love him.

Whenever I see a small, shaggy haired dog my first thought is, "Wait! Is that a Coton de Tulear?!"

My mother found Cotons right after Milo died. She originally suggested getting a Bichon Frise but found Cotons in a web search for the small, fluffy pearl-white dog. Maybe they are distant cousins.

She even found a Coton breeder in Colorado. I went to their web page, stared at pictures of bright eyed, smiling dogs and was smitten. I wanted one - immediately.

It's still tough to look at pictures of Milo. I still don't like that I don't see his pillows around the house or his crate in the second bedroom. I don't like that his carrier is not in the car and that his food and water dishes are not in the kitchen. I really, really don't like it that he isn't here. I miss him. I've realized I will always miss him.

But it sure would be great to have a new friend and family member. So I filled out an application, sent in a deposit and waited anxiously for newborn Cotons to arrive. And then they did! I don't know how many hours have been spent watching and rewatching videos of puppies but it has been a lot. They have transformed from what my coworker called fuzzy potatoes to stocky, rumpled, sweet-faced youngsters. With luck, my new family member will be ready to be picked up in May.

I am excited but even better everyone around me is excited. It seems we are all ready for a new four-legged family member.
