A dream come true
When I was a kid, the most beautiful voice in the world belonged to Ariel from Disney's "Little Mermaid." Or at least that was my opinion. The movie inspired my huge interest in the mythical creatures. I drew picture after picture of mermaids; I attempted to mimic their movements in the neighborhood pool, but most of all I really wanted to have Ariel's voice. I would sing all her songs from the movie and although I thought I sounded alright in my own ears, recordings my sister did on her cassette player revealed a completely different story.
My childhood dream to be Ariel may have gotten the kabash but I recently got another chance to imitate a vocal pro. I was introduced to Rock Star recently - a video game that has toy drums, keyboard, guitar and microphone. You sing and play instruments along with a song and get scored on your performance .Watching the players jam to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" or Joan Jett's "I Love Rock n' Roll," I was impressed. This is not just some sort of laid-back karaoke activity. No, in this game you can calibrate the drum set with a metronome. Plus, there are digital singers and musicians jamming away in some sort of urban warehouse setting.
The microphone got passed around and at one point it ended up in my hands. Unlike my childhood yearn to sound exactly like Ariel I knew singing like the singer from Blondie was not going to happen. In fact, at one point I laughed out loud at one of the lyrics. So imagine my surprise when I discovered I got scored at 100 percent. I figured I was graded on a curve but it still didn't stop me from gloating about it to anyone who would listen.

It felt as though at last, after all these years my dream of singing like a pro finally came true.
